Giving Back

The New River Valley is the community we and many of our members call home. It is important to the NRVHBA to give back. In fact, it is our part of our mission. The NRVHBA gives back to the community through initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Scholarships for graduating high school students who are pursuing secondary education in the construction industry at Virginia’s Colleges, Trade Schools and within Working Internships. Learn more here.
  • Charitable donations and activities with partnering organizations throughout the NRV.
  • Our workforce development committee, which is actively working with partnering organizations and the area's public and post-secondary schools to further trades education and construction career awareness
  • And more!

NRV Builders Recognized at State Housing Awards

News Awards

The New River Valley Home Builders Association (NRVHBA) and its members were presented with multiple awards on June 3rd at the Home Builders Association of Virginia’s (HBAV) 2023 Housing Excellence Awards. These awards recognize and highlight members who exemplify leadership, engagement, and dedication to the success of their local home builders association, local community, and the Virginia building industry.

Sean Beliveau, Owner of Slate Creek Builders in Blacksburg, VA, was awarded the state-wide Remodeler of the Year award, recognizing his superior business management, exemplary association involvement at all levels, and outstanding contributions to the remodeling industry. Sean currently serves on the NRVHBA Board of Directors, has served as the Association President, as well as on the HBAV Executive Board. Slate Creek Builders has been named a “Best Place to Work” by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and, in 2022, they worked on over 40 projects from design through to construction.

Sean, his wife and co-owner Carol, and the Slate Creek Builders team are involved in many community initiatives, including support for Habitat for Humanity, partnerships with Toys for Tots and the MCEAP Food Bank, sponsoring the local Farmers Market and community festivals, as well as serving on local community boards and for greater statewide organizations. “In the construction industry, the success and growth of one business means success and growth for many other businesses,” said Sean Beliveau. “We are a small team, but we employ and engage many other small businesses in our community. The more work that we do, the more business we push into our local trades and retailers. Our success is greater success for our entire network in the industry, and it’s why our tagline has been “Your Community Builder” from the beginning.”

Justin Boyle, co-owner of Green Valley Builders, was awarded the Distinguished Builder of the Year award for his significant, long-term contributions to the NRVHBA, HBAV, and Virginia building industry. Justin has served on the NRHVBA’s Board of Directors for 15 years and currently serves as President. Justin has over 20 years of construction experience and his company is built on relationships. It is driven by performance through building products that not only sustain the value, but also save money over the project’s lifecycle to add up to a healthier and more comfortable lifestyle for the customer.

Within his time in construction, Green Valley Builders has gone from building single family custom homes to developing and building large multifamily and commercial projects, all while keeping the local NRV community and building trades involved. Justin has always been a proponent of the NRVHBA, has spent countless hours volunteering, and is a true cornerstone of the NRVHBA’s and local building industry’s success. “This association is such a vital part of our industry, and I am just glad to be a part of it,” said Justin. “We have such a diverse group of members that make the association thrive and this award would not be possible without the help of all the people around me.”

The NRVHBA also took home the Best Community Event Award for the 2022 Touch-a-Truck NRV. This family event allows children to become familiar with building industry and public service careers by exploring the trucks, tractors, heavy machinery and interacting with the people who build, protect, and serve the NRV. With proceeds from the 2022 event, the NRVHBA started a Workforce Education microgrant program that will fund projects at local NRV schools. The NRVHBA is excited to hold the event for its 8th year on August 12th, 2023.
