Giving Back

The New River Valley is the community we and many of our members call home. It is important to the NRVHBA to give back. In fact, it is our part of our mission. The NRVHBA gives back to the community through initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Scholarships for graduating high school students who are pursuing secondary education in the construction industry at Virginia’s Colleges, Trade Schools and within Working Internships. Learn more here.
  • Charitable donations and activities with partnering organizations throughout the NRV.
  • Our workforce development committee, which is actively working with partnering organizations and the area's public and post-secondary schools to further trades education and construction career awareness
  • And more!

Design Excellence: Best Outdoor Living/Landscape

Outdoor areas or rooms extend the living space of a home. Some are adjacent to the home such as in a case of a covered patio while others are completely detached. What makes an outdoor living area different from a simple functionary roof or patio is the livability of it. The same design considerations used to design a kitchen or family room are applied to the natural areas outside of the home – function, appeal and use of fixtures and amenities.

Design Excellence: Best Bathroom

Bathrooms tend to be one of the smallest rooms in a house even though they serve many roles and daily tasks. Layout, function and integration of design make a huge difference when creating a one of a kind bathroom. Cabinetry finishes and fixtures often are the highlights or the design features for this highly used space. So, making sure that every detail is considered is important. Both of these nominees put together exceptional examples of functional, yet beautiful spaces and the votes showed it.

Design Excellence: Best Kitchen

Many people consider the kitchen the heart of the home and family. When considering what makes the best kitchen, we considered a design that plans for overall layout, function and integration into the entire home with creative use of space and overall appeal of cabinetry, appliance and unique features.

Design Excellence: Best Remodeled Home

When accepting a remodeling project, there are often more considerations that need to be addressed than a new home since you are having to work with existing walls and placements. This year’s best remodeled home nominees all had houses that showed creative integration of both site and interior constraints.  They showcased unique selections of furniture, fixtures and amenities. But when a remodel project is completed there must be obvious quality improvement and the nominees each did an outstanding job showing this.

Design Excellence: Best New Home

To be the best new home in the NRV, the chosen home had a lot to live up to. These nominees were judged by their peers on the overall exterior and interior design and construction, the function and creative use of interior space, creative integration of plan design with site considerations, unique features and fixtures, and innovative use of flooring and wall treatments. But overall, the house had to stand out both inside and out.

2021 Builder of the Year

The Builder of the Year award is not only the best of the best of our association, but it says a lot for our community as well. The builder of the year isn’t just building the best homes, but they are most building the best business practices as well. When a business is nominated for builder of the year, we are making sure they are building with integrity and quality in mind as well as giving serious consideration to the impact their building is creating on and in our community. They aren’t thinking of just this house, they are thinking big picture. To each of our nominees, we thank you for building a better New River Valley – one house at a time.
